Midtown Atlanta Shooting Leaves One Dead and Four Injured, Police Launch Manhunt for Suspect

A shooting in Midtown Atlanta on Monday afternoon left one person dead and four others injured, according to police. The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. local time near the intersection of Peachtree Street and 3rd Street, a busy area of the city’s downtown district.

The Atlanta Police Department stated that they received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers found four victims with gunshot wounds. All four were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, and one of them was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The identity of the deceased victim has not been released, pending notification of their family. The conditions of the other three victims are currently unknown.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene on foot. The suspect is described as a male wearing a black hoodie and black pants. He is believed to be armed and dangerous, and authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

As of Monday evening, the suspect was still at large, and police had cordoned off the area around the shooting as they continued their investigation. Officers were seen going door-to-door in nearby businesses and buildings, asking for any surveillance footage that could help identify the suspect.

The shooting has shocked the local community, and many residents have taken to social media to express their condolences and call for an end to the gun violence that has plagued the city in recent years. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms released a statement on Twitter, saying, “Gun violence has no place in our city, and we will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrator of this heinous act to justice.”

The incident marks the latest in a string of shootings in Atlanta this year. According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 122 shootings in the city so far in 2023, resulting in 154 deaths and 493 injuries.
