Charles Barkley Criticizes Jordan Poole’s Late Game Mistake in Warriors’ Loss to Lakers

The Golden State Warriors suffered a tough 123-110 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, and former NBA star Charles Barkley had some strong words for Warriors guard Jordan Poole following the defeat.

With just over a minute remaining in the game and the Warriors trailing by six points, Poole made a costly mistake by attempting a contested three-pointer, instead of driving to the basket for a higher percentage shot. The Lakers secured the rebound and went on to score on the ensuing possession, effectively sealing the win.

In the postgame analysis on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” Barkley didn’t hold back in his criticism of Poole’s decision-making in that crucial moment. “That was a terrible shot,” Barkley said. “You have to go to the basket in that situation. You’re down six with over a minute to go, you have to get a high percentage shot.”

Barkley went on to say that Poole’s mistake was a prime example of the lack of discipline that has plagued the Warriors throughout the season. “Golden State is a talented team, but they have a lot of bad habits,” he said. “They take too many bad shots, they turn the ball over too much, and they don’t play smart basketball.”

While Barkley’s criticism may seem harsh, there’s no denying that the Warriors have struggled with consistency this season. Despite having one of the most talented rosters in the league, they currently sit in eighth place in the Western Conference with a record of 34-34.

As for Poole, he acknowledged his mistake in the postgame interview, saying that he should have made a different decision. “I gotta be smarter,” he said. “I should have drove the ball, got a better shot. It’s just a learning experience.”

In the end, the Warriors’ loss to the Lakers serves as a reminder of the importance of smart decision-making in crunch time. With the playoffs right around the corner, they’ll need to clean up their mistakes if they hope to make a deep run.
